I apologize if this is addressed elsewhere, I'm short on time before work and there's so many posts here that it would take forever to find it
I'm having a problem on my 98 Explorer XLT. I can't really get the plastic covering off the lug nuts, and therefore I can't decipher the exact lug spacing/etc for the rims. I want to upgrade to a larger rim w/ lower profile tires, but have no idea what kinda sizes will work.
It seems the standard set of rims on there are actually fairly small, more in the category of large car/van sizes than for trucks. I've checked out Konig/etc but without an exact specification and possible sizes I'm at a loss.
I'm looking to enlarge the rims by at least 1-2" if not more. Couple that with a lower profile tire there *should* be room for travel w/ grinding, etc. Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? What's the largest total size (rim + tires) that will travel fully without a problem? Also, I'm assuming the speedometer/odometer would have to be adjusted due to the new dimensions affecting speed and mileage, anyone know what that would run from a dealer/etc?
Thanks for the help! I'm brand new to moddin' but this should be a fairly simple, very noticable upgrade to my XLT.
