98 Ford Explorer shifting problem

I have a 98 Ford Explorer 4.0 automatic, 4x4 XLT. Shifts good going up but when you hit passing gear it goes to neutral? Let off the accelerator and it goes back into gear. Any ideas?

does it not do it when accelerating normal?? it could be the 2-3 flare. you might be dropping into 3rd and its slipping. were working on a fix for that right now. Glacier is one of the transmission gods here at this forum. he will give you good input. It could be many things tho. the cheapest way out is what we are working on right now. it a $16 part and easy to swap out.
