98 hatch update?

what needs to be done?


I will at least paint the black parts on my 96 and take the trim off the hatch and put the window end caps on hatch.

it's missing the V8 emblems so I'm gonna put the 98+ ones on and get the 98+ "EXPLORER" and "XLT" badges for the lift gate.

but what needs to be done to do the 98 update?

lights?
hatch?

latch still work?

locking system?

From what I'd researched the only thing that seems to be different (aside from the way it matches up with the rear side windows) is the license plate lights are in the wiring harness for the 98+. So you'll have to A) use your current bumper location or relocate those wires through the roof and connect them into the hatch harness.

Other than that everything should be good to go. I plan on doing this in a few weeks. So if I beat you to it I'll give you the inside info.

Plus, you know you'll need 98+ tails, right??

As far as I know, it's pretty much a drag and drop proposition. you will need to wire the tag lights up, and maybe re-arrange the plugs to work, and swap taillights, other than that it's an easy thing to do.
