98 limited running lean

Hello all, The 5.0 is running lean and im not sure why, the only mod is a mac intake and when the engine gets warm it sounds like a diesel motor only when i step on heavily though. It also doesnt happen all the time, the only thing i changed was the air filter on the mac intake i put a slightly larger filter on. Any advice would be helpful.

Do a tune-up, then look at emissions items like EGR sensors(DPFE), O2 sensors, IA bypass cleaning, MAF cleaning. Good luck,

Im just waiting for the plug wires to come in. I ordered NGK iridiums and taylor spiro pro wires, I have a new fuel filter, Tokico shocks, new front suspension, rear sway bar, and mac cat back to install. Im just tryiong to find the time to do it all at once.
