98 merc mountaineer ac not getting cold

Ax clutch kicks on for 5 seconds and kicks off repeats over and over, put 1 and half cans R-134a. I jumped switch ac clutch kicks on and runs but still not getting cold.

Did you properly vacuum out the old refrigerant before putting in the new stuff? That could be the problem.
Or you didn't put the right amount in.

if its short cycling......that's a pretty good indication of a low system....

1 and a half cans would not be enough if the system was empty.

those cans are 12oz, most systems take 2 or more pounds
