I just got done putting an 02 explorer 4.0 sohc motor in my 98 ranger (wich i probably wouldnt have if i had done some more research before starting) i got it running great really except im having some transmission issues & i believe its because im running the 02 explorer ecu or pcm whatever its called for the explorer sohc wich btw the pats was kinda a pain to figure out but anyways i got it goen but im getting a p0791 code & im wondering if its because the 98 trans doesnt have the intermediate shaft speed sensor (iss sensor) that the 02 explorer did so the ecu is looking for that sensor i definitely have an extra plug on the sohc harness goen down to the trans plugs. After finding out i had this issue i swapped the computers out & put the ohv ecu back in to see if it would be better & it definitely shifted better but after a lil bit of driving the overdrive light started flashing again & i was getting a vss code? Is there any chance that if i get a new speed sensor im guessing in the rear diff wich i need to do either way or mayne just clean it? But any chance if i get that fixed it will take care of the iss sensor code? & if not is there anything besides getting a diff trans wich mines a 4wd & im not sure if the explorers came with 4wd in 02 or if they were only awd either way id rather not have to change the trans if at all possible. I also read something about running a 97 explorer ecu/pcm from a 4.0 sohc is maybe the way to go but not sure if thats compatible with the 02 4.0 sohc motor i have? Any help would be much appreciated thank u
