02 Ford Explorer XLT
I purchased an 02 Ford Explorer XLT back in February with around 154k miles. Since then, it's been pure headaches. I'm at my wit's end.

The major problems that I am having right now is I'm getting multiple cylinder codes. Also, the car keeps overheating, the fan turns on fine. I have to add water everyday to the reservoir. Even with that, my gauge goes up, you can hear a pressure pumping noise, there will be steam coming out and hissing. I've had a few home mechanics look at it but they are all unreliable, they don't know, etc. I just became unemployed so I don't have a lot of money for repairs. I just need this car to hang on until the beginning of the year, Ive already put do much money into it.

The codes that I get are:
P0316
P0304
P0010
P0314
P8304
P0396
P0216
P2000
P0306

My uncle is a certified auto technician, he looked at it, told me #4 needed to be replaced and to get new wire sets. But then all of these other codes started coming up like crazy. He even said it was strange, asked if anyone has touched or disconnected anything. He told me to reset the computer by disconnecting the wires. I did and even more codes came up.

On Friday, I drove to the store less than 2 miles away, on the way back, car was smoking from all places. Step dad said it smelled like old oil. And it was leaking drops everywhere, like rust color liquid. I haven't driven it since then.

I'm at a loss. I don't know anything about vehicles, except to put gas in them. I don't know where to even start, what I need to purchase, is it worth fixing at this point?

Please help.

First thing you need to do is maintenance on the cooling system, this includes: replace all coolant hoses, block and radiator flush, new thermostat, new radiator pressure cap, and fresh 50/50 water antifreeze/coolant mixture. There is a good chance you might need a water pump (if leaking), or something else that is faulting with the cooling system (leaking heater core, or heater control valve).
