'98 XLT
Hello all, thanks for what looks like a very helpful forum.
I hope some of you may be able to help me with my '98 XLT w/4.0 sohc. I need to replace the exhaust from the cat back, the original one is now in need of replacement (I'm impressed it lasted this long, 9 YEARS!). I used to get Performance Products catalogs years ago with a whole bunch to choose from, however they don't seem to carry anything for '98 anymore. I'm looking for a stainless system because even the aluminized systems don't last long around here (road salt winters). This is a street duty truck (I know, I can hear the groans from here)mainly for work, occasional camper/open car trailer hauling. What would you recommend for a shadetree mechanic that is a GOOD fitting system. I don't want to wrestle with anything (I had experience in the past with some ill fitting crap on other cars). Thanks for any input you have. -Michael

Ee

you can try explorerexpress.com they got some great stuff i have the mac catback for my v8 explorer the fit was alittle off but nothing to bad

I would select the muffler of your liking and then have a local exhaust shop weld up a custom 2 1/2" pipe system.

Good luck ....

Thanks for the quick reply!

Thanks Aldive & Scraper, Slightly off is the stuff that drives "slightly" mad:confused: . I done enough of the "close enough" stuff, busted knuckles, scraped hands, etc. I think I'll try Aldive's advice and call my local proshop (thanks for the reminder, funny how the obvious things elude you). Al, I'm envious of your mileage. When we ordered oue x back in '98 I wanted 2wd but the wife sad "we want to go on the beach" so we got 4wd. Guess how many times it's been on the beach:rolleyes: Once for the millennium celebration @ Montauk Point. My plan was 2wd, manual tranny, lowered suspension. Oh well, 9years, 120k miles really can't complain other than the 15mpg average (18 is the highest I've seen in recent years.) it used to get 20+ when new but I have a theory that the timing chain is not as tight as it could be and effects the timing. I'm ramblin', thanks guys.
