my sohc would idle rough in the morning when it was cold out then smooth out in a minute or two, so today i changed the upper and lower intake manifold rings..... started it up......... problem solved, or so i thought, idle was perfect it was about 55 degrees out, and that would have been a problem yesterday....... it was a proud moment! that didn't last, i took it for a drive with the family after a few minutes of driving i noticed that the temp gauge was a little high and the idle was about 1200 rpm when i stopped at a light. when i gave it gas to get on the hwy before i got off the on-ramp the check gauge light was on and the temp gauge was close to "H". once on the hwy when i let off the gas the temp would come down but not to it's normal operating level. this continued to happen till i got home same thing on surface streets as the hwy it was a little warm at red lights and when driving but give it a little gas and it would shoot up. i would appreciate any advise to avoid being swindled by local dealership mechanics. thanks

My 98 SOHC was doing the same thing about 2-3 weeks back. I took it to Ford and had the thermostat replaced and it fixed the porblem.
