Haynes Manual says to torque the valve cover bolts anywhere from 71- 88 in/lbs. I am re-using the original gasket if it matters.

What makes sense here? I hate when it gives such a wide range of torque. I always get nervous that I will over or under tighten because of the Aluminum head.

So, simple question, what is the CORRECT way to do this?

If you're reusing the gasket and bolts, go toward the high end. That's actually not a wide torque range, and consistent torque is more necessary than absolute torque anyways. Torque only is an approximate measure of clamping force anyways.
