Hi All,
First time posting here, although I've always found great information here.
I have a98 Sport - AWD
Over the past few weeks, about 4 times my car wouldnt engage in reverse. I would hear a gear grinding noise. I would put it in park, then back in reverse and away i went. Well, this morning it took a turn for the worse. Now the car will not go into reverse at all, and if im going over 30 mph the grinding noise is present unless i am giving it some acceleration. As soon as i stop accelerating, the gear noise is present.
My first thought was transmission, then i found a thread that talks about the transfer case. After poking around more with my explorer, i found that the only way i can go into reverse is by engaging in 4-low.
Any help is appreciated
Thanks
Eric
