The front windows on my '98 Ex have started acting up when I try to put them down. The drivers side is the worst, and only goes down an inch or two before the window tilts toward the front of the vehicle and slows or stops for a second, then it straightens up and goes on down smoothly. I haven't torn into it yet, but what should I look for when I do? Is this likely a part replacement or just something to lube?

Thanks

You could be lucky like I was and there might just not be any lubricant left on the window track.
My window would go down soooo slowly. I opened up the panel and sprayed the track with white lithium grease, it runs like a luxury car window now. Drops in a couple seconds.

This would be the first thing I would check. I had to lube my tracks with white lithium (spray) when I bought my Explorer six years ago. I just had to re-lube them last month, and all is well again.

I had the same problem on my '99. After I got the windows down I sprayed silicone lube on the tracks. Works great, now!

++1 on the lithium lube. Had the same exact problem and I thought "Crap, I'm gonna' have to tear the door panel apart." Used the lithium fix and all is well now. Easy fix to a problem that you might think is bad, but turns out well.
