I need to replace the stereo system in my 99 Explorer Limited because the LED board has gone out and it costs 200 to fix it. My question is can I replace it and have the controls on the steering wheel still work and is there a certain brand I need to be able to do this correctly?

Yes, and no. You can retain the controls with the use of a special wiring unit, Crutchfield and many other palces sell them. But your new unit has to come with an IR remote.
