99 Ford Explorer
I have a 99 Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition. It sputtered and died, but started up long enough for me to get home. It started up and I tried to drive it to the parts store to get a diagnostic, then it sputtered and stopped running again. I was able to get it started again and drove home.

Then it wouldn't even start later on. It would crank but I couldn't hear the fuel pump kicking on. There were no blown fuses or relays. I have replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. I can spray starter in it and it runs for a second.

Any ideas or suggestions? I appreciate any help or advice. Thanks.

PATS or CKP Sensor?

If you have good fuel pressure, good fuel and ignition (since engine runs on starter fluid) then you may have a bad crankshaft position (CKP) sensor or a PATS issue. Which engine do you have? See Ford Explorer Engine No Start Procedure for some ideas.
