I have a 99 mountaineer and it just has no reverse and it feels like its always in drive not to sure about automatics the car has 101 thousand and iv had it sence it was new and never had any problems. Besides a new trans what else coud I try any insight would be great thanks

not much you can do other than replace it .there is a little test you can do .

put it in first gear ,get some speed going and let off the gas and see if the trans has engine braking(slowing of engine via trans),if the truck keeps right on freewheeling(not slowing)then the reverse band is broken(big repair)

if it has engine braking yet then the band is still good and the repair could be cost effective(maybe bad solenoid or something).

if there is no engine braking in first gear you might as well replace the trans.
they have to break down the whole trans to get to the reverse band so at that point might as well rebuild or replace it .

good luck ,i been there.i bought a used trans (not my greatest moment)and it slips now n then .

If I get a 4r70w two wd trans can I change the tail shaft housing to my 4x4housing will that work
