My 1999 Mountaineer just recently started having these quirky intermittent problems with the ac blower fan control. I have the model with the digital read out control panel. The first time I noticed this problem the ac was working fine then all the sudden I smelled this ionized air smell like something electrical had started burning. The smell was coming through the vents. I promptly turned the ac off. When I turned it back on I only had full blast on the fan or nothing. No in-between settings. My truck has the controls for the AC on the steering wheel as well and that 2 only had full blast or nothing. The next day the controls worked fine like nothing was wrong. So yesterday it did the same thing all over again. Any ideas as to what might be wrong.
Thanks
HOT IN FLORIDA NEED AC LOL

Just had this myself. It's called the blower motor control module.

Part # XL2Z19E624AA, $54.26 from Fastparts, or like $80 from the dealer.

Mine was stamped XL2H-19E624-AB, but that part number has been updated.

2 8mm bolts, it's just a pain to get to. It's in the engine compartment, just below, and to the right of the blower motor. Look for a plug with a couple good sized wires in it, mine had a blue sticker on it. You'll need to remove the speed control actuator (1 12mm? bolt) move it out of the way, and maybe remove the coolant overflow/washer reservoir if your hands are too big. I ended up having to use 2 extensions and a swivel because I didn't want to pull my reservoir out. Took me about 30 minutes, 10-15 if you subtract the cussing because of the tight space.

Have fun!
