I have searched and read multiple posts about the engine rattle at startup, but most posts were old and I was wondering if anyone knew of any new info on this or if it might be a different problem. I just picked up a 1999 sohc xlt with 69xxx miles, and in the morning, or if truck sits for 3 to 4 hours (estimated) it will rattle right at startup, it will not do it when driving at any rpm or load and once it stops and I restart it, it is just as quiet as it should be. I was under there one morning and had wife start truck and it sounds like its right behind the oil pan and or bell housing. I have only had for about two weeks and haven't tried the synthetics I usually put in my vehicles or any additives yet. I am sure it is in the lower part of the motor, would the timing chains make noise there.
