Hi guys,
my 99 Explorer Sport just passed 100,000kms and I'm wondering what maintenance I should do.
My buddy just bought a 2002 Sport and his tranny just died on him. It was "flaring" every time he gave it gas. He brought it in to Ford and $1300 later, he's back on the road.

My bro's F150'S tranny just went and the dealer told him it should've been flushed at 100k.

What do you recommend I do?
I bought the truck only 3 months ago, I was thinking...tranny flush, engine flush and oil change, rad flush, check brakes, I heard the front end isn't great on these vehicles.....

Any help or advice appreciated. ;)

I would ....

change oil/filter - no flush
change coolant
air filter service
flush tranny
check all hoses and serpentine belt
change fluid in differential

good luck .....

I'm with Al, and stay away from the engine flush no matter what you do!

Look/search for the easy trans fluid flush on this site and do it yourself, I do suggest really looking at your trans fluid before you do this though...

If it's still nice and red and doesn't smell burned then a flush is a good idea but if it looks rather rough and/or smells just "worn out" then Leave it in there. Many say that the new fluid will have too much detergent and degumming additives and cause way more trouble than you bargain for with a high mileage trans.
