Hey guys just a quick question…I have searched the forums with this question and tried a few remedies but none have seem to have worked.
I own a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport with the 4.0L SOHC & an automatic transmission and 149,000 miles. I have no idea if it’s the original tranny.
Just this past Monday I have been experiencing some transmission slip from 1st to 2nd gear.
If I have the gas all the way down it seems to shift rather smoothly, but if I drive at normal speed it will rev to about 4k rpm’s and only shift if I let off the gas. Then it normally slips into 2nd fine, but my O/D off button begins to blink.
So after reading the forums, etc. I just put in a new trans filter and 4 qts of new fluid (mercon V) as well as some Lucas trans slip stuff that is supposed to help with trans slip.
I have driven it 2 days now, and have made sure I have the exact right amount of fluid in it. It’s perfect level now, but the same problem exists.
Are there any either “quick fixes” I can or should try? I love my explorer and have the cash to buy a rebuilt and can most likely install it at my home. But obviously, I’d rather try some other smaller suggestions if possible.
If it is my trans, do you have any suggestions where to buy from, etc? I live in NJ if that helps.
I appreciate the help guys.
