'99 XLS OHV, TCC code, found insanely destroyed 5r55e wiring harness

Another fun detail I discovered with my shop's handiwork, the new trans dipstick just will not jam all the way into the tube, and the bottom half inch or so is broken off...

I should clarify on my profile, it's a 2WD Explorer.

Bring it back. This sounds like a whole lot of their problem right now.

Did they also install a new torque converter with the new trans?

They did. According to paperwork anyway. But yeah, it's definitely heading back to them. I'd expect weird shift points maybe with needing to get the computer used to things but certainly not what I've had in the first few drives.

Check out this video. Really works for transmission problems on the Explorer.

I will definitely have a look at that. I've had the P1000 - drive cycle not completed - code for awhile. My suspicion is that the PCM is not recording anything. Now that the trans is replaced I would hope all the hard parts are good.

Well, I think this chapter is closed. After taking the old Ex back to the transmission shop and going over my issues in detail - transmission fluid blowing all over the exhaust and smoking, the TCIL flashing even with the new transmission, TCC issues, the problem seemed to be a clog in the valve body on the used transmission I was sold. They took it apart and completely replaced the valve body and solenoids for free. So far, it's running incredibly well. All the gears, torque converter locking up fine, really smooth shifts. The shop owner apologized pretty profusely for his mechanic not taking it for a long enough test drive and based on the mileage, they definitely drove it all over the place this time. Overall I'd say I'm pretty happy with the shop, but mostly I'm happy to have the old thing back on the road. No doubt in my mind I'll get the engine to 300,000 now.
