99 Xplorer Project

I need some advice! I have a 99 ford explorer 2wd with the 4.0 v6. My goal is to put the 5.0 v8 under the hood and find a donor 4wd package to put underneath. I need some input on if this is possible, down right crazy or plumb insane? I plan on putting a lift kit on it and some nice meaty tires. I plan on keeping this baby as my toy till the rust takes over!

I can see going from v6 to v8 or going from 2wd to 4wd............but to do both? My advice is to sell it and buy another truck. But, both are possible.

I know that it sounds crazy to do both, but to try and sell this and buy another, how much would I stand to loose? plus I owe to much on this one still! I like the truck and plus would be a great task to complete! Thanks for the welcome!

I think if you were doing an engine swap anyways, throwing a 4WD conversion into the mix wouldn't be much more work. I'm gonna have to say its very possible. Find an AWD Explorer (rolled or something) and go to town. You'll have all the parts you need for both conversions.

Well, if you are determined to do so............there is a lot of info here on V8 swaps, and by the time you were down with the 4WD swap, it would prolly be worth your money to do a SAS (solid axle swap) to the front.
