My '00 XLT (4.0 OHC V6) just turned 99k, and I'd like to get the auto trans fluid changed to a newer synthetic, is it too late to do a flush? Can I request just a change? And if they do a change, does it have to be the same fluid type that was in there?

Thanks, Ryan

Was the fluid just changed recently? If not you can change the fluid it should not harm anything.

I don't think it's ever been done. So I'm trying to catch up on the needed maintenance stuff. I think I've read "Change" is good, "Flush" is bad...

Consider yourself lucky to have gotten to 99K, my tranny failed at 61K. I had a complete flush at 30K and again at 60K and at 61K, the tranny FAILED!! I limped home 500 miles with the damn thing slipping so bad, that I was crossing my fingers and praying I would get home. So I would assume flush is bad.

Got a stronger rebuilt tranny (not from Ford) with a 6 year 60,000 warranty now!
