A/C Compressor kicking on?

it seems when i turn the air flow control to any position i hear a clicking sound like the comprssor is kicking on, even if i have the temprature set to hot. is this normal.

I know it engages on my 1st Gen (at any temperature setting) whenever the vent switch is set a defrost setting.

i noticed a similar thing the other day on my 94, the compressor pulley will engage for a short time then stop, everything works fine, except the fan blows when it wants to. so am assuming this is normal operation. yes mine does click on at defrost, that IS normal.

Mine clicks also, bit it is fairly load. starting to get annoying. How load should it be relatively speaking?
