I just picked up a very clean and good working A/C compressor from a friends Ex that is being parted, I know some people said don't by another Ford comp but it was too good to turn down $40cnd. Anyway I can install myself no problem but do I have to take the truck in and have the system evacuated first then flushed, go back home put it on and then go back for a refill?

Yes you should and replace the orfice tube and reciever dryer at the same time .

I have not got right in and had a good so I am not 100% sure what you mean by tube and dryer, but can the dryer and tube be cleaned?

The tube is cheap and the dryer no you have to buy a new one .

Dryers should be in the $50 neighborhood, I don't know about the orifice tube, but cheap.

Replace all of the parts first, then go to an AC shop to have it evacuated and refilled. Remember to have AC oil added also. Good luck,
DonW

I went through this repair last August.

Everyone is right. Replace orifice tube and dryer.

Auto Zone has special tool for remove and replace tube for free rental.

RockAuto.com has best price for tube and dryer.

Repair takes about 6 hours. Longer if you need to tap bolt holes for heat shield that goes on back of compressor.
