2003 Explorer XLT, 4.0
I have 2003 Explorer XLT 4.0 Flex Fuel with a little over 90,000 miles. three days ago my a/c was working perfect. The day before yesterday my a/c seemed to be working fine, but the air was coming out just a little cool. It wasn't warm or any thing but just slightly cooler that the air inside the cab. My first thoughts were it was low on refrigerant. I went to the auto parts store and got the kit to hook it up and the refrigerant. I got it hooked up and followed the instructions in my trucks guide and on the hose kit. I tired for a half hour but it seemed the can was not emptying and the connector on the low pressure side seemed to have plenty of pressure and refrigerant. At this point i also noticed that the lines were not cold coming off the evaporated they were both warm. Also as far as i can tell the condenser is turning on. At this point i am at loss on what to do. I do not really know all that much about the a/c side so any help any one can give me on where to start trouble shooting would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing I know my buddy had to replace was a little needle valve thing that goes inside the system someplace on his Gen II, not sure if the Gen III's have a similar system... I have no idea what it's called, but someone here will- it's got a little piece of screen or something on it I think, and that fixed his issue. Maybe someone can chime in?

Sounds like the orifice tube.

That's it! I knew I would recognize it if someone said it.

How could I forget a name like that? That would have made me laugh all day in 5th grade...

...ok, it would still make me laugh like Beavis. :D
