Just got the call from my Dealer that my cooling fans are INOP-- and the cost to replace would be 700.00 USD. I have a 2011 Explorer with 39xxx and just went over the 2 year mark on May 3rd 2013. I told my dealer that I had the Fan TSB looked at when I had it in for regular service; I was told this is not covered now but they might be willing to work with me. I did some research and found TSB 12-10-3 and was told those are for information only...... What ..... I think TSB 12-10-3 covers this issue. I originally have my vehicle in the shop for an A/C problem which this 12-10-3 talks about. I think I need Some FORD Service intervention on this problem.

I haven't been able to find that TSB but there are a couple on the TSB thread that concern A/C and cooling fans. However, I am quite sure that the TSB work is at no cost only while the vehicle is under warranty. That is one reason I take out the ESP. I think of it as an insurance policy. It may never be needed, but........

Just got the call from my dealer. The Cooling fans were the A/C problem. Have not picked it up yet. Will see what happens then.

Hi freddyzp,

I responded to your post on another thread as well, but I wanted to reach out to you here, too. Send me a PM with your information so I can start looking into this; I'll need your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name.

Crystal

After picking up my vehicle all is good. The A/C is good and cold. I have been contacted by Susan at Ford Customer service and have taken care of any Issues with this problem thank you much

Motor And Fan ASY Engine Fan Replaced

Just got mine out of the shop last night! I did an update Wednesday night on my MFT and the car over heated and my AC quit. I took my Explorer to the dealer yesterday morning to drop off for oil change and had someone look at the A/C. Service person contacted me before lunch to tell me the fan is not working. I'm 4K over bumper-bumper with no extended warranty so she informed me that this is going to cost me $775. WHAT!?! Picked up my 2011 Explorer last night paid the $767 On my Invoice it states BA8Z*8C607*C MOTOR AND FAN ASY - ENGINE COO. I just find it unacceptable that at 40K I have this expense. No cool FORD not cool. Any one else face this problem? Need some advice. Dealer wont back down :( I think I need Some FORD Service intervention on this problem as well. Can someone please help?

Welcome to the Forum LH.:wavey:
Did you have the Customer Satisfaction Program 12B36 done earlier. That was to reprogram the module that controls the cooling fan motors?
As for some kind of help, I would hope that Ford would work with you on that since these fans in the 2011 have been a problem. On the other hand, you are over the warranty period so they are not obligated to do anything. But morally...? This is another good example of why many of us have taken out the ESP. It is a redesigned vehicle with many electronic systems and gadgets.
Looking on the bright side, if this is the only problem you encounter with the Explorer while you own it, you would still have paid less for the repair than you would have for the ESP.

Perhaps Crystal (FordCustSrvc) the Ford rep who monitors this Forum, may be able to help. You can send her a Private Message and she will require your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name.
The person that began this thread had the same issue with the fans.Good luck.

Peter

Yes I believe I had that done when my heater quit working a few months back :( I'll check my records on that but I am pretty sure I had it done. I really wish I had gotten the ESP. I really hope this is the last problem I have with it for a while. My dealer's service people where not willing to work with me, suggest any next steps, offer up the service managers name or even bring him into the situation. not even a moment of compassion. Anyway, thank you for your reply you did make me feel better. Right now I'm just sick to my stomach about this just sick.

I am having a problem where my AC only cools at speed and not at idle. My problem didn't start until after my local Ford dealer performed some recall work on the fans. They did the recall work in the early spring while it was still cool and I didn't need the AC. I had 34,x.. on the clock. Now that I need my AC it doesn't work anymore and my vehicle is out of warranty. I just came across the TSB where they have known about the issue and its fix since September of 2010. My local dealer hasn't mentioned anything about the TSB. I am so frustrated with them and the 1-800 Ford Customer Service folks just tell me its the privately owned franchise that needs to make it right. Johnson Sewell in Marble Falls just wants to bleed me for more money. They are misdiagnosing a problem that I believe the recall exacerbated. Everything was working fine until they performed the recall work.
I would sure like to work with the Ford Customer Service Rep on this forum to try and get some help.

Welcome to the Forum NXN66.:wavey:
As I've mentioned in another post, to contact the Ford rep on this Forum, just send Crystal or Cory a PM (Private Message) with your issue. You should supply your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name.
Just click on FordCustSrvc in the left margin of a post they sent. That will give you a drop-down list. Select 'Send a private message.....'
I don't believe there was ever a 'recall' on the cooling fans. There was a 'Customer Satisfaction Program 12B36' that had to do with reprograming the PCM to allow the fans to run at a high speed on occasion to prevent corrosion on the fan motor contacts.
Good luck.

Peter

Thanks Cory. I received your pm. Hoping this will help get the issue resolved.

Hopefully they do the right thing because the cooling fans were a bad design on their part which many people had issues with... They should have made it a recall instead of a TSB because this affected a lot of people.

Had my A/C fans quit again 2nd time. back in May of 13 the fans failed and I complained to FORD they were willing to pay 1/2 the bill 350.00 usd. Here its 3 years later and they quit again. Contacted my dealer and FORD with the information that the fans quit again. Dealer wanted me to bring the explorer in for diagnostic check, I told them it was the fans-- the A/C was not working right and the engine was making a strange sound. The dealer had the parts and I purchased them and started my own diagnostics.
Purchased the Fans on the 9/14/2016 and installed them on 9/15/2016 after i verified the installed fans were bad--
1. remove fan controller from new fan and replace with old fan controller-- fans did not run
2. slave in new fan and controller to make sure all is good -- turn explorer on and go to max A/C fans work!! turn off explorer and slave in old fan controller on new fans and start explorer go to max A/C fans work!! must be a bad fan motor on old fan unit.
3. remove and replace fan unit and connect to vehicle install all removed parts start explorer and go to MAX A/C -- FANS WORK!!! I saved myself about 500.00
4. from start to finish only took me about 1 hour total and I'm not a Ford certified Mechanic -- I was an Avionics Technician in the military for 28 years

All is good old fans Made in USA and Assembled in USA new fans the same
