A/C Grinding-New info in reply
I have a converted A/C on my 91 X. It had been working but not really getting very cool (70*-72* at the vent). So I put two 12 oz. cans of 134a in it (probably too much huh) took it out for a test drive and it started grinding. I know it's the comprossor because it stops when I turn the A/C off. What i don't know is:
1. Did I put two much 134a in?
2. If so, did I blow out the compressor?
3. Is it possibly just the clutch?
4. If so, can I replace just the clutch?
The A/C still works, it just sounds horrible. I don't want to spend $150 for a new compressor, have it sucked and dried, and put new 134a in if I don't have to. Have to do something though, my 2 month old rides in the car and it's getting hot. Thanks
P.S. Did a search, didn't find my specific problem.
