i got a kit with 2 fittings that replace the R12 ones with R134a ones so i can use my tool to check high and low side pressures (the quick connects are for R134)
i swapped the low side fitting easily but the hot side fitting is... not removable??, the threads stay on and there's a shrader valve i removed but the fitting wont screw on at all

do i need to buy a new line that has R134a fittings, this is annoying because im not going to be using R134a, im going to be using R12a from Redtek (canadian stuff)
and that is compatible with R12 systems (supposedly, i might double check after i post this to be sure)

so if it's impossible to change the fitting in my current line, will i be able to get another line from rockauto that has the fitting i need, WITHOUT having to change the entire system to R134a?

So you have a R134 gauge set and you want to change fittings to allow that gauge set to be used instead of the R12 1/4" flare gauge set of the era.

Here you do not want R134 fittings? Fittings do not determine what refrigerant can be used. They are an aid to tell the A/C tech what refrigerant is in the system when it comes to charging and reclaiming to not mix and contaminate recovery cylinders.

Both Ford and GM used proprietary high side fittings which needed an adapter to hook up to the R12 1/4" flare gauges. If sticking with this R12A? get a gauge set with 1/4" flare and the proper high side adapter. Done deal.

Of course :|
haha well alright, i might've mangled the high side a little bit, if i bought a new line from rockauto it would be the R12 one right..?

It would more than likely have the OEM R12 fittings. When I convert a system to R134 the 134 fitting I use on the high side (3/16 SAE flare) is a Murray/Four Seasons 59978 for Ford.

ah i see, so the smaller high side fitting is 3/16, i need an adapter from 3/16 to 1/4", i guess i could technically get an adapter from 3/16 to 7/16" and use the tool i got, but im having 0 luck finding a 3/16 adapter period, what a headache

You don’t need to change anything on the high side in order to discharge the system, vacuum and then charge the system from the low port… just sayin
