My AC wasn't cooling sufficiently so I bought a can of refrigerant to add. When I put gauge on it it was reading low but in the acceptable range. When I added the refrigerant it moved it to the far end of the range and cooled down considerably. But after driving it a few miles it began to blow less cool once again. This would indicate a pretty massive leak but if I start it the next day it blows freezing cold then gets less cold as I drive. Any ideas and thanks👍🏼

1. Go to Wal-Mart, in the cooking section; buy yourself a digital thermometers with One inch high letters (about$10). Stick it in the center vent. Now you can read the center vent temperature and monitor it. Turn the switch to max cold. Max cold will Recir cab air temp (give you colder air). Also by changing fan speed will drop the air temperature. The low the speed the colder the vent temperature. When you are charging you should have the fan on max speed, Recir air setting. If you take in outside air you lose 5 degrees ( higher temp). My EX have a small leak at
Bottom connection of evaporator. I also would use Freon wit UV Dye. Help you find the leak. If you center vent temperature hit between 38 to 42; it full charge, if its around 55 you have a slow leak. If you have both ranges, it could be the blend door. You need get a setting of gauges harbor freight had a set for $30 normally $80you can tell more.

Thank you for the info but why does it blow ice cold when I first use it then it gets warmer? Then later it blows ice cold once again?

It sound like it the blend door. If it blows cold : the ac is working. It also could the vacuum hose came off the heater control valve. As the engine warms up you have heat. 195 degree heat over takes the the 32 degree cold air.
