Hello again, all. The A/C in my beastie isn't working at this time. I don't think that the compressor is locked up, but we charged the system and nothing happened. The light comes on when you cut the A/C on in the truck, but no cold air. :(

Any suggestions? Is there a fuse, fusible link or relay I should look for?

The light comes on when you pushed the AC button and no air movement, like the fan doesn't work? It works intermittenly?

On mine, it was a loose connection at the fan motor. Check that out. It's on the left side of the engine compartment towards the heat shield. There is a wiring connection to the fan motor, turn on the fan and play around with the connection to see if that's the culprit.

No... the blower motor works, but the A/C compressor doesn't come on. It doesn't make any noise when I cut in on; in fact, nothing happens at all.

Got no idea. Hope that doesn't happen to me!

Does the AC compressor have a clutch?

Yep. The pulley spins freely when the A/C isn't engaged, but the clutch doesn't engage when the A/C is cut on. Any help is much appreciated!

How about checking the voltage at the compressor to be sure it is getting there?

Hmmm... that's a good idea. Never thought about that. Thanks!

You're welcome. It will at least point you where to go next. If you are getting voltage at the compressor, then you know the problem is in the compressor (possibly the A/C clutch?). If you don't have voltage, then it would either be the wiring, bad switch or a bad fuse. If you have a bad fuse, then you could have bad wiring or a bad compressor taking it out.

I've been driving my CBR for the past couple of days, so I haven't checked it. But I'm checking it on my lunch break. I wanted to say thanks again!

A/C

My 94' EB does the exact same thing. A/c light, nothing else. ........Did you figure yours out????

Mine was doing the same thing, so I took into the local A/C shop and they did a 40 min check and determined that the compressor is ready to blow-up. So the compressor and accumulator replacement will run me over $1,000.
But www.carparts.com has the two parts for $350, so I may just purchase the parts and see if I can do the wrenching.
Any hints as to what to watch out for??

Thanks

ex voto if everything else is in good repair your pressure cycling switch may have gone bad, both of mine have. This switch is located on top of the accumulator normally sticking out of the side of the low pressure valve T. As long as your AC system is over 25 psi (I think) on the low side this switch should be closed, you can check the continuity with a multimeter but I have found a couple that check out fine with a meter but wont pass enough current to cycle the compressor clutch. I would recommend replacing it, at about $10 it's good insurance against another outage even it doesnt fix this problem. Other than that if you arent getting voltage to the clutch it could be the WOT cut out relay that cuts out the AC compressor clutch when you floor it, or the fuse, or a bad gound to the clutch coil. Good luck.

jemail, I would recommend replacing the seals on the springlock fittings and installing a new oriffice tube as well, both of mine were full of crap. Have some AC oil on hand to, most auto parts stores will have it in the AC section. I'm talking real oil here not the stuff in a pressurized can, the only brand I have seen so far is castrol. The ford manual (if you dont have one, get one before starting this) will give you a guide line as to how much oil to add to which part. Other than that it is pretty straight forward.
