Hey there brothers and sisters I've got a couple of questions for ya and hopefully you'll have plenty of answers for me....Well I've been doing lots of reading up on the forum here and I'm new to the Explorer scene and I just recently got a '96 Limited.
1) A few days back I put in a K&N FIPK kit and a Gibson cat back exhaust. When I dropped the K&N in I definitely noticed a power increase and throttle response but I also had about 3.5 mpg decrease.
Then yesterday I dropped in the Gibson and so far I'm getting about 1.5-2.0 mpg increase from that slop with the K&N. Does anybody have any experiences or remedies to share for that situation.
2) Also I'm getting my first oil change on it this weekend and I'm thinking about going with a Synthetic Blend and a 10w40. Any recomendations?? (It's got 80,000 miles and 4x4 so that's why I was leaning on 40 weight. )
3) I want to lift the sucker but since it's a limited I have some issues. It is lower than the xlt's and such and it has air ride. Also I really want the 4" lift but I sure as hell don't have 2 G's to put in to it right now and recommendations for parts to do the front and maybe an SOA in back?? I was thinking of temporarily doing the Torsions, add-a-leaf and shackles. I really want the rancho add-a-leaf kit but will it work on a '96 and does anybody have the part number??
4) I am thinking about eventually getting a chip. What are your feeling about either the chip or the module? Also do you actually need to fill with premium with those mods or what.? I live in So. Cal. and gas isn't cheap right now.
