1993 Eddie Bauer 2wd
Alright, heres my deal. I have a 1993 2wd Eddie Bauer. I've done all the interior and exterior work I want to do(which is too much to list). So now I'm ready to do my final mods, which will be a 5.5" Superlift and 33's. And my question is this. Compared to how my truck currently ride with stock tires, stock shocks and every other suspension component stock. How is the ride going to be with just the superlift on it and how is it going to be with the lift and the tires. I'm just curious as to how smooth or how bumpy itsgoing to be compared to how it rides now. I'd really really appreciate some feedback. Thanks,Ryan:cool:

Welcome to the boards!! You'll find everything you want to know about your truck rght here. Welcome aboard!! It's good to see someone else from Louisiana around here!!

There are plenty of people around here running the Superlift 5.5". This lift will require you to do a SOA conversion (Spring Over Axle) in the rear, which keeps the stock springs, so the ride in the rear won't be much different, if any from stock. For the front, taller springs and drop brackets will be used. I'm not sure how much stiffer the Superlift springs are than the stock ones, or if they are at all. The new shocks will probably be firmer than the stock ones, which may firm up the ride a bit. The larger tires may actually make the ride softer because of the extra sidewall height (depends on the tire though).

This is just what I know from reading around the boards. Maybe someone who has the 5.5 will reply with their personal experience.

You might want to contact Gopher. He is the only lifted 2WD that I can think of. Not sure if he has the Superlift, though, but it's about that high, and he runs 33s.

Well being that I have had 2 lifted explorers I will try and help you out a bit.

1992 2wd explorer: 6" Skyjacker Kit + 3" body lift and 35" tires. Ride was a little more bumpy but I like it better than stock.

2001 2wd Explorer Sport Trac: 4" Pro Comp kit + 3" body lift and 35" tires. This truck kept a great ride w/ this lift.

You may want to check around but the 5.5" Superlift does not come in a 2wd kit. I may be wrong on that though.
Check out Skyjacker, and Fabtech. I hope this helps you a bit. It has been a while since I looked into 2wd kits as I have moved on to 4wd's.

Hey fellas, thanks a lot... it helped out a lot also. I'll check a little bit more. Yea Superlift does make a 2wd 5.5" kit. It's the same as the Ranger kit. I'm hoping to get the lift on pretty soon and post a few pics, what tires do ya'll think i should go with. I want a really good looking M/T that will hold up pretty well on the street and get me through what i want. Although the truck is mainly going to be for show, not mud! Any opinions will be helpful,Thanks again. Look forward to hearing from ya'll. Ryan

Welcome Ryan...
I'm running the Procomp M/T's..Love them..I've been running them for about a year now, still have alteast another year left in them..They behave well on wet pavement, and perfrom excellent in the mud and sand. The only draw back...Road noise..That is something you are going to get with any TRUE MT..You can find pics and videos of mine by clicking on the link in my signature,,See for yourself kinda deal..
Good Luck.

Welcome to the Forum, Ryan!

I run a 5.5" Superlift with the Extended radius arms and Superrunner Steering kit. I bought the pro Comp Xterrain 33-12.5/15's that are on it now about 2 weeks ago and I really like them! I haven't had a chance to try them off road yet but that will be coming up soon!

As mdrut said, it is a see for yourself thing....

I think the Superlift made my suspension stiffer, personally...Just might be these old bones!!! :)

Hope this helps.
Jim

If all goes according to plan I will be putting my lift on this weekend. I have a couple of the same concerns. But I have the Skyjacker 6 inch lift Ive heard they are a little softer of a ride

Jimbo, you got x terrains, when? How much did they set you back?

what did you do with your kellys

I have the superlift 5.5". I tow a boat and its my daily driver. I installed the rancho 9000's, air adjustable and this makes a big difference. When on very bumpy roads I will lower the air pressure and they suck up the bumps when I'm driving on the freeway I keep them very stiff incase I need to make an emergency move. Alos when towing the boat I make the rears stiff and the lower the front a little to make for a enjoyable ride. Hope this helps. I do know that some people have had problems with the in cab air adjust. You can also by the manual where you have to get out and adjust them, this is cheaper with less parts to fail but you have to get out and turn a knob by hand. No biggie.

thanks for the info jammin, your truck is exactly how mine should look in the next 4 weeks. how loud are the x terrains on the road(like how loud is the hum) and how smooth do they ride?Hey Positive Vibes how do ur 4.10's handle those 32"s,because more than likely im gonna run 4.11's. Like hows your gas mileage and stuff like that. Thanks for your help guys,im out. Ryan

Ryan,
To help on the Xterrain question...

I ran Dunlop mudrovers prior to getting my 35" Xterrains. The XT's are quieter and perform better than my Dunlops did. I love the tires. I've been running them since October and will get another 12-18 months on them. However, I am running a Detroit in the rear and that tends to chew tires pretty quickly.

Be sure Superlift gets you the 133 springs, not the 118's - otherwise you may have serious camber problems.

As with the others, click on my sig to see what they look like...

J

Like Jon said, the Xterrains aren't very noisy at all IMO..
I got them from 4Wheel Parts, Buy 3 get one free deal.

The Kelly tires went back to Jeff K. He bought a 93 plain cherokee (not like his Grand C) and did a lift on it, so I guess their going on that one.

One thing I get a kick out of with the Xterrains is how you feel the knubs when your rolling real slow...:) They hum a bit, bit not bad.

Ryan(93EB), if you're going to change gears, I'd consider going to 4.56's rather than 4.10's... IF you're gonna use it on the street a lot i guess 4.10's might be better for ya!

Later
Jim

hey jammin,to your gearing reply. im going to be like 90% on the road so i was thinking more along the lines of 4.11's. Im gonna take her offroad every once in a while, but not as much as your guys do. My truck is mainly gonna be for good lucks. But i dont wanna lose any power or accel. or anything,so do you think 4.11's would be the way to go or what?

Ryan,

I think that 4.10's will work just fine for what you want to do. 4.11's aren't available (as far as I know).....

4.56's REALLY gears it up a lot and is meant more for offroading than the street. I rarely drive mine on the street.

Hope this helps

Jim

yea that helps, ill prob go with 4.10 or 4.11. Whichever exists, lol. More than likely i'll run either the procomp M/T OR X/T,not sure yet. Thanks for ur help man.

You're very welcome!

Good luck with the lift project and choice of tires! I made the mistake of going with 15X10" rims with my Xterrains and they rubbed really bad, so I switched back to 8"'s and it rubs a lot less.

Later! :)

Jim

Yea,Ive already got my rims. They are some 15x8 American Racing Luxors. Not the best looking but the look alright. Ill prob. switch over to a deep dish 5 star 15x8 once im through with the lift and all. So the 15x8 dont rub with the 33"? Alright ttyl,Ryan

I'm looking to order my X-Terrains,but i cant find anybody with a good price. I remember seeing an advertisement on some web site for 135 i believe for a 33x12.50 XTerrain. Does anyone happento know what website I saw that on? I really needa know. Lata fellas,Ryan

I got mine from 4Wheel Parts Wholesalers.. They have a "Buy 3 get one free" offer going on right now with Free shipping!!! 166.95 ea is what i think i paid....

The 33's rub JUST a little, but only under full articulation. I am going to trim a little bit of the fender well to try to stop the rubbing all together. Ain't nuthin I can't live with, tho...:)

Hey,i remember you guys saying when ordering the kit to get the 133 springs instead of the 118. Well i was talking to a buddy of mine and he told me that the 118 offer a smoother ride that the 133. And that the 133 were more designed for a serious offroad vehicle. All i want is good looks, smooth ride and a little bit of mud. I'm not gonna be crawling rocks or anything of that type ever. So do you guys think i should go with the 118? How bad do they sag? And also what superlift kit should i get,the one with the extended radius arms or what? And what all is contained in the kit. Will it come with shocks and if so which ones. Well just respong asap. Thanks guys,Ryan
