Sup, I'm 16 and I just bought a '93 Explorer (www.the-shiznit.com) about 5 months ago and I have a quite a few questions...

1.) How many amps does the stock alternator in a '93 Explorer put out? (need to know if I need to get a new one for the stereo that I'm about to put in...).

2.) How do I get the power window motor/gears out of the front drivers side door? It won't roll down, and I can't find a way to get to it.

3.) What is the lug pattern on a '93 Explorer?

4.) Where are some good sites that sell Grilles and other exterior mods for Explorers?

5.) Anyone know where I can get some 20s with tires for under $1500? ;)

6.) (not really Explorer related) Are Fact-O-Bake paint jobs *any* good, how long do they usually last? Don't feel like spending $5,000 on a paint job right now. ;)

7.) For people with systems in their truck: What are some problem rattle areas? I am about to put 4 12s with 500-600w RMS each (2400w RMS total) in my Explorer and I have a feeling I will have some rattling problems.

8.) Where can I get lowering springs for my Explorer? (I'm looking for a 3-5" drop depending on what size rims I get)

Thx in advance.

Congratulations of your purchase!

I can't answer the alternator question or the door/window question. The lug pattern is 5x4.5, and the only other questions I can answer are your lowering questions. Lowering a first-generation (91-94) Explorer is not easy and is often recommended against. The front suspension is the TIB (twin I-beam) suspension and pretty much the only way to lower one is to get some good coils and drop spindles. I don't think you can lower a 4x4 without losing 4 wheel drive, but I don't think that's something you'll hafta deal with. I've seen drop I-beams for Rangers with the same style of front suspension as your Explorer. They replaced the factory units and had the spindles mounted much higher. As far as I know, you can't lower the 91-94's with just coils more than maybe an inch or 2, if that. It hasn't much been discussed. For 3-5" I'm pretty sure you'll need the drop beams/spindles. Unfortunately, I don't know where to get them. You can read more about dropping an I-beam truck at http://www.therangerstation.com/Drop.html According to that page, more than a 2 inch drop will require beams.

Congratulations on your purchase! You will definately get a lotta rattle out of the rear hatch, mine vibrates like crazy and sounds like crap from outside. The rear quarter panels below the big side windows will shake a lot too. I wish I could help more with the other questions. Good luck!

Oh yeah, you might want to look under the "tires and wheel" forum here, I know someone was asking about putting 22's on their X, and Heath posted some good websites to check out. Also check out the Audio forum, it's very useful and there's a lot of guy's there with good knowledge about sound systems.

k, thx for the replies everyone.

believe me you will want to get a good 200 amp or better alternator for that system. the stock alternator only puts out 90-95amps.

I have a 93 it is lowered 3/4. The only way to lower the front is lowering beams through chassie tech or springs. i recomend beams that is what i used. For the back i got 3 in drop springs and a 1 inch block. i took the back bump stops off and it axle was on the frame. so i made a 2.5 inch bolt in notch. I also have 4 12's. it raddles like crasy. i herd dynamat would help but i havent tried. The 95 amp alternator SUCKS. I got a 240 from mean green. but the alternator dosent solve the problem it helps but you could use a coupple of deep cycle battries. Email me if you want some pics.
