Hi all:
I've owned several Explorers in the past ('93 XLT & '01 EB V8), but my ex (as in ex-wife) took her Ex when she left. I'm in the process of buying an '01 Sport 4x4, and have a few questions:
1: Carfax reports that this vehicle was originally titled in Ohio, where it lived for 1-1/2 years. Where should I look for signs of rust? I've looked it over from underneath very carefully, but I might have missed something.
2: What issues might there be with the 4.0 SOHC engine? The 4.0 OHV in our '93 was rock solid for 8 years & 140K miles. Can I expect the same from the newer one? (I wish they put V8's in Sports!)
This is a great site, by the way. I've already found a bunch of information. I wanted a 4x4 because my new job requires me to drive to work 25 miles, and I am expected to show up even if we get snow (rare in SC, but it happens). I also tow a utility trailer on a regular basis, and have always liked the utility of an SUV. When my '96 Chevy S-10 died last month, I realized that Chevy's do suck, so I started looking for my next Ex.
I'd been thinking about getting a Sport, and doing a few custom mods to make it handle and look better. Then, when I saw Black Magic's '01 "Street", I saw he'd already thought of everything I had and then some! I think I'm gonna like this place.
Regards,
John.
