first and foremost I wanted to know about any new seats I can swap into my 92 xlt. I would love to have some aftermarket ones but Ill consider swaping in a later model ex seats. Iwould like to retain the current seat controls, up down foward back lumbar and bolster. I would appreciate any
recommendations! Also if I could stay away from headrests that would be great.

My second is I need a new steering wheel. I like the look of billet ones with flames but they are expensive.
also I would like to retain my cruise controls if possible.

Thanks in advance!

Well I dont know much about this but I would try to get some 2nd gen seats, may have to modify wiring for seat controls.

I dont believe you can keep cruise controls with a custom steering wheel but I could be wrong, those may also be modified to be bolted on the the wheel....would look funny but you're the only one who has to look at it haha. Good luck I hope you get the answers you're looking for.

I replaced the seats in my 92 Sport with some power/ leather ones from a 97 Ex. I had to wire everything for the power seats myself but other than that, they just bolted in. They are much more comfortable than the old ones and I am happy that I made the switch.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I know its gonna be near impossible to keep my cruise on the wheel so I'm wondering about places to put it. Any suggestions?

Can you post pics of your 96ex seats I don't know what they look like.

Thanks

Here is what I got...

Those are almost just like mine. But slightly different.

I wonder were I could buy new ones with out paying ford prices.

i like the leather seats..did any ex's come with black leather?!. also about the cruise control, i would mount a switch thats esy to reach and convienent.. maybe on the left or right of the wheel just below it on that flat area.. also, you can rig any of the on-wheel controls up to auxilary switches so you can retain those features..

where are you finding a wheel tho because i would like this to be my next mod!

It will be hard to use aux switches for the cruise cause they are not just on of switches I took the wheel apart back when my cruise was not working to check the switches and a few of the buttons acually connect different resistors together instaed of just 2 pieces or wire.

I think ill find a place to mount the stock switches.

it's not near impossible. you can do what my friend jon has.

he installed an aftermarket steering wheel into his eclispe, and kept the cruise control. he didn't mount them so you can see it, because it is only 5 buttons, and by now you should have them memorized, he formed them into the back of his steering wheel, out of site. if you look at them, they look like triggers

or hears another idea, you could always get a steering wheel that has the NOS buttons, and wire one side to be on, and the other to be set/accelerate

think about it, if you need to coast or turn it off, tap the brake, does the same thing in most cars.

people might wonder what the red buttons are for in an X, lol, but you could paint them to color match so they'd blend in.

as my neighbor says "anything is possible and can be fabbed up if you have the gonads and money to do it"

grant makes some nice wood rimmed wheels I am looking at and the have adapterkits for early exs I was thinking about one modeled off of an old mustang.

i found a 99 eddie bauer edition, and tried swapping the leather front driver with a 1st gen explorer sitting next to it. only 3 of the holes lined up, and the other didnt have the material to redrill to make it fit. so i held up on buying them. did you also install the rears? any issues at all?

rears?
