OK, so they finally got the transfer case off and there is a part that is on the front drive shaft which is rounded on one side and had a boot inside with bearings. Anyone know what this is called? Also, can I buy just this part or am I going to have to buy a whole new front shaft? The part I am referring to is connected to the front drive shaft and the rounded part butts up to the transfer case.

Please help!

Thanks!

That's called a CV joint, or in a lot of driveline shops, the 'CV Head' on the front driveshaft. Someone recently pointed me to a link that had a rebuild kit available for them, although I was under the impression that they were welded to the end of the driveshaft and had to be cut off, re-welded, and re-balanced. I'll probably be finding out shortly as I'm prety sure mine's about had it...

Actually, there is a ring of bearings inside that the drive shaft slips into. It wasn't welded...it literally fell off when they took the transfer case off. I was able to find a whole drive shaft (since the yards won't just sell a CV joint) for $65 on car-parts.com. What a great site! I found the link in one of the threads here and I am so glad I did!
