a question about the starter

i have a 95 limited 4.0 4x4 and am trying to replace the starter....does the exhaust downtube have to come off? it just doesnt seem like theres enuff room to get the starter out. also any tips on getting to the top bolt? thanx guys

so now i have the starter off but cant seem to get it out...does the motor have to be lifted to get the darn thing out? this is killing me plz help

That sounds strange, because mine came out without too much trouble. I can't seem to visualize yours. Do you have a new aftermarket exhaust?

no aftermarket exhaust. just the differential is in the way. as far as i can tell im going to have to undo motor mounts and lift the engine cuz i cant seem to figure how else it'll come out. ill take some pix and post them.

What the...? It looks like you are about 1/2 inch away from getting it out. Mine was a 1st' gen 4x4. A slightly different set-up. You should be able to carefully jack the engine up a little. Hmmm?

i got the solution....i found a 96 x 2wd suposedly with a bad tranny....turns out only a bad radiator leaking tranny fluid into coolant and low tranny fluid causing slippage....i got this steal of a deal with 117 thousand on it for 400 bux plus 230 for uhaul truck and trailer rental...pulled the radiator from the old truck...allready got the new one up and running....hehehe
