Kev,

I am thinking of doing the same thing with the exhaust, i just dont want it to be to loud. At my shop i had a guy come in with a full size dodge with straight pipes and it sounded sweet, just about right. I also had a guy come in with a chevy 4.3 with straight duals and it sounded mean also.

Does anyone have straight pipes on a 4.0?

You cant do straight pipes on a 4.0 explorer. I have an XLT too, and everyone and every shop has told me specifically, you HAVE to have some backpressure or else your going to be looking for a new engine. My advice... Do what im going to be doing, buy a Flowmaster 40 series muffler, Its LOUD and has just enough backpressure from doing anything bad.

As far as the gears go it all depends on what gear ratio you have currently. Any less then 3.73 gearing and your milage may suffer.4.10 seems to be a good ratio for 31" tires. You may be able to fit these with little or no lift at all. Good luck and keep us posted on what you do.

2. whats the biggest rotar size upgrade i can do ?

There is not a larger rotor upgrade available for Explorers.
Your best be is to go with Power Slot rotors & Hwak Ceramic pads.

Summit Racing has both.

im running 33x10.5x15 on my 96 with the 4.0 with the stock 3.73 gears...i know i need to move up to 4.10...my mpg is suffering a bit, im gettn like 13 mpg right now...
