'93 XLT--MAN Tranny
Hey guys and gals...
I'm on the quest of upkeeping a '93 XLT, and have caught some snags. During an intake maniofold replacement, unplugging vaccuum lines was necessary... but when wrapping up, I found myself 1 line without a home!! Car has been running normal without it.
I guess the easiest way to find out where it goes is for you good people to post pics under the hood of your '91-'94s. (The line starts from the back right and runs almost all the way across the back)
An added--and possibly related--problem is rough shifting. When shifting to reverse (manual tranny) half the times the gears grind (it's not me :p) And even going into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, there is added resistence. Sometimes to the point where I'm jamming it up as hard as I can to engage it.
Could the rogue vaccuum line be grinding my gears? How do I move on to keep my Exploder sounding/shifting good?
Thanks,
Exploderman09

the only Time I can see a vacuum line even being remotely connected to the transmission is with an automatic trans (on the 1st gen x)... With the a4ld (auto trans) there is a vacuum line from the intake to the trans (there is a hard line coming from the trains up to the motor)..

I do not think they are related at all...

As for the vacuum lines...

In a 1993/94 you shoul dhave have the following lines coming off the octopus (spot with all the vacuum lines on the drivers rear of the manifold)..

cruise control
Master Cylinder (brakes)
a4ld (only if you have an automatic)
Fuel pressure regulator
Vacuum canister.. its on the passenger side of the engine bay.. towards the firewall. This line actually t's off and goes to the top of the intake box. There is a 2nd line on the top of the intake box that goes down to the air hron (down low on the intake tube, near the passenger fender).
EGR (I'm pretty sure the 1993 has it)..

You will have a left over (possibly a few) on the octopus.. thats ok and normal.

Yea.. the air horn is the air intake from the body of the vehicle (behind the passenger headlight) to the air box.. Thats normally called an air horn.

where's the friction point of your clutch? If it's on the floor and I'm betting it is,
check the fliud level in the master cylinder of your hydralic clutch.
Please note that once you take the screw cap off there's a rubber *cup* sitting inside there. Lift that cup out to add fluid.
Don't fill it to the top without the cup because when you put the cup back it'll displace fliud and over run. (messy)

My 91 has a little vacumn diaghram by the hood latch.

Air horn = Cold air Preheater? (to airbox)

I only see 4 hoses on the octopus, with the extras plugged up. One goes to the master cylinder, another is my cruise control as I have been using it (connects to another hose cluster on the passenger side), one is the rogue which follows the back and ends near the cruise control hose, and the final one runs past the master cylinder to the rear driver's side. None run low, they are all visible from atop.
