My truck keeps eating the speedometer driven gear. I've replaced it many times. It will work well for a week or so, then start to bounce more dramatically, then bounce much worse, then stop all together.
When I pull it out, it's not "chewed" but more worn down. Concave like.

I'm afraid the only thing I can do is rebuild the transfer case. Anyone see an alternative?

the gear driving the speedo gear is probably hooped, it needs to be replaced too i bet,

Thats my guess too. I replaced the drive gear on our for the same reason many years ago. I did it in the driveway and did not have to drop anything big to do it. IIRC it was just the drive shaft and the output flange on the xfer case.

That would be great if that's all it takes. Thanks guys. I was told by a transmission reman shop that it would need rebuild to the tune of $700.
