a4dl transmission info required

Hi i am from South Africa and put a 2.0l fuel injection engine with a a4dl trans in my '28 Model A hotrod .
I am using an aftermarket wiring on the engine.
What I would like to know is can the transmission be used without the factory wiring, not worried about the lock up .
Will it shift all 4 gears like that ?

welcome! i believe it is hydraulic controlled, so i want to say yes? but @410Fortune knowledgable not a trans guru just going off of my minimal a4ld knowledge

Welcome to this forum! The transmission has two solenoids which are computer controlled for 3-4 shift & TCC lock up.

What year is the transmission? A toggle switch would handle the torque convertor lockup. The early A4LD had 1 solenoid for the TCC. Hydraulic 3-4. Byy 1990 it had the 2 solenoids, 3-4 shift and TCC.

1986 & 1987 had one solenoid in the valve body. My 1988 van has two solenoids.
