Hello. I have a question about the TCC. wich are the symptoms of a bad tcc selenoid? I recently get some problems in my ranger 92, the rpm have a variation, some times up to 1600 aprox. and then fall to 500, almost shutdown when I put the truck in drive, but a few moments driving this change and the RPM are a little over 1000. I use the scanner and the only error code was 629 (TCC Solenoid Circuit Failure).
In other forums I read about disconect the 3 wires connector from transmition and if the problem stops is the selenoid, if not could be other thing.
This is why I would like to know the problems of a bad tcc selenoid and if this symptoms are for this selenoid.
Thanks a lot for your advice.

the symptoms will be different, but usually either it wont engage, or it wont let go. do a search on here and it should come up with a lot of info on symptoms, conditions, and testing.

I think your on the right track.

If you disconnect the harness on the side for the TCC you will stop the computer from controlling the 3/4 shift and the TCC (lockup).

If the symptom goes away the next step is to put an Meter on the TCC wires. That way when your driving you can see if the computer is constantly telling the TCC to lock/unlock randomly.

If it is, then its a wiring issue or the ECM is just confused (not good). If the computer isn't telling the transmission go lock/unlock the converter (randomly) then its the TCC that is bad.

IIRC, the wire bundle for the TCC and 3/4 runs upwards and near the exhaust manifold. If the bundle isn't "locked" in place it may have fallen against the manifold and melted some wires. I've seen that on two explorers now.

Thanks a lot for your answers, I will check the wires first and also disconnect the harness and check what happens.

When you say random, does that mean if I hook up a volt meter to the TCC wire, when I'm driving the voltage will fluctuate all over the place, or will it drop to 0.22 or something when it's engaged and 13.98 when its disengaged?
