a4ld installed but not engaging

so i bought a used a4ld from a guy that said it worked when he took it out well i installed it an it wont engage. he took it out of his explorer after it caught fire so could this of fried the internals or am i missing something ive done alot of transmissions but im wondering if i missed something

im an idiot i heard a loud noise when i started it i didnt realize it was the torque converter. it wasnt set back far enough in there pulling the tranny back out tuesday

Well you better make sure that it didn't break the ears off the pump.

pulled it back out the shaft was backwards fixed it put it back in an still nothin what gives?

Did you turn the torque converter & drop it fully into the bell housing? You should hear a sound, and feel it drop as it's turning into place.
