- 2000 Ford Explorer XLT
Hey guys, so I have a 2000 Ford Explorer 4X4,
4X4 was not engaging so I went ahead and swapped the T-Case Shift Motor out.
4X4 started working and I could see the light illuminate on the dash as of yesterday when I swapped it out.
This rig has been offroaded hard so the radio was falling out, multiple switches falling off due to broken plastic behind the dash. I went ahead and put a bolt & nut through the switches (the holes) through the dash to secure those and I used a T-Bracket screwed into the plastic radio harness to give more surface area so it will have somewhere to bite so the radio doesn't fall out. I also replaced all of the "illumination" light bulbs (black sockets, total of 6 lights) today as they were all burnt up and no longer working.
I put everything back together and the lights STILL don't work (I don't care much about this) but my 4X4 will no longer engage. (yes the switch is plugged in.)
At first there is no light on the dash but when I engaged 4HI or 4LO (in Neutral) I heard relays clicking but nothing engaged.
after trying to trouble shoot it for a while, there is no longer relays clicking.
I am not entirely sure how the ESOF system works on it. (Light wise) if the light on the dash engages after it goes into gear or what. Previously the 4 Hi light turned on RIGHT when I clicked it over.
I tried backing up and driving forward to get it to click in place.
(Yes I'm sure it isn't engaged by jacking the front and rear up and putting in drive. the front wheels don't spin)
I'm learning more towards an electrical fault, potentially bad ground. Maybe the shift motor went out, maybe I'm just an idiot, Maybe it's maybelline. Would love some of your guys' expertise though && If you're local to SoCal, you shoot over to help me I'll get ya some beer.
I just got this explorer so I'm not too familiar with these rigs but I know it can be turned into a badass offroad rig.
Already made a scrap metal bumper for $20 xD! GOOD OLE SCHEDULE 40!
