A4LD Output Shaft Play. Normal?

Is it normal for the output shaft on the A4LD have a little bit of play in it? I can move it up/down, side to side ever so slightly. After doing some reading online it seems that some transmission are suppose to have a little play in it. Is this small amount of play normal or do I have a bushing going out?

It should have a drop of play, but not too much. It's held into place with a small circlip that is difficult to remove & install.

A small amount of play in an older tranny is normal.
