A4LD rebuild prices!

Has anyone had their four wheel drive transmisson rebuilt / how much?

I had my wife's tranny rebuilt about 8,000 miles ago. I took it to the dealership for the diagnosis ... they wanted $2300 ... I told them what they could kiss and went to a local speed shop. Turns out that the local speed shop has the same tech that diagnosed the truck ... he moonlights for them to make extra cash So, I ended up paying $1089 and got the exact same work done that this guy would have done at the dealership ... FOR HALF THE PRICE! Talk to the techs at the dealership ... I am sure that they would much rather do it for you on the side than for what the dealership would give them (about the same minus taxes). I had mine done about a year ago from a local guy - quite reputable too. Cost was $1800 plus some upgrades (shift kit, beefed up a bit) total came to $2100. Had I thought like fastcougar, I would have paid only $1100...
