Can anyone help diagnose a problem with an A4LD? It has a re-manufactured Jasper transmission with about 15K on it. And yes it is out of warranty by time not mileage. The truck is a 1988, two wheel drive with a 2.9 V-6.

Here's what happened; the truck was being driven with the kick down rod disconnected. On a hard acceleration, instead of down shifting it felt like it went into neutral. When cool it will abnormally shift into reverse and first. After a short delay it will slam into those gears and appears to operate normally. In drive it fells like it is in gear but slips and will not move the truck. Any thoughts about what may have happened or what to look at?

Thanks!

Can anyone offer me any thoughts about what may be wrong? In thinking about it, could it be that the OD band may need adjusting?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You probably already know but in case you don't... The A4LD is like a pretentious French bimbo (actually from France) you just took camping fooling yourself you were going to get laid but just found out that all you're gonna hear is whining and *****ing. Unless you buy her flowers, dinner, diamonds and caviar she just ain't gonna put out. In other words... HIGH MAINTENANCE and NEVER DEPENDABLE RIGHT WHEN YOU NEED HER

Yes, I know it is a poorly engineered POS. This is the third replacement and I have already rebuilt the value body in this one using the recommendations in the sticky thread by Glacier 991. I also read the sticky thread about converting to a 5R transmissionwritten by NICE59FORDF100. That was for an explorer and I'm not sure if that conversion would be possible for my truck. But, since I actually did something that caused this problem, I 'm hoping that someone could provide some thoughts about what the problem could be.

My logic says OD band may haven been damaged when I tried to hit passing gear with the kickdown rod disconnected. Since I live in coastal Virginia and we are under an extreme heat advisory, just hoping for some input while waiting for a break in the weather before trying to adjust it. I know I'm beating a dead horse with this tranny. But, I'm hoping the old girl will lead me alond a little further. Thanks for the response Jason!

Sorry I couldn't offer any real help... I thought I would offer humor instead.
