I know I've seen this info here in the past, but I can't seem to find it...

What is the fluid capacity of the A4LD? Haynes manual says 4.0 quarts for an 5R55E but I need a4ld capacity...
thx

Wow really!!!! It says with fluid change and filter change 3 quarts possibly 4 quarts. Where would 9 quarts go? Do you have a secondary filter?

A fully dry trans will take about 9 -10 quarts because the torque convertor and other internal areas are empty. When you pop off the pan to drain, the fluid in the t/c and other areas remain. You are really just draining the sump area.

Ah I didn't realize it was that much though. Good to know for future needs.

Thanks. I am going to drop the pan, put in the SPX Microfelt filter, new gasket, new o-rings, and top it off with ATF. I just needed to know approx how many quarts I would need to top it off after dropping the pan.

after just droping the pan only 3 quarts are required
