Any problems with the speedometer? My 92 had a bad VSS sensor on the tranny--which also controls the overdrive gear. When the speedo quit---no overdrive. Perhaps it just may be the VSS even if the speedo works? part new was around 50 bucks canadian.

Ya. What he said.

What is a vss

Were is it And do have the part number. Thanks for your help :can: :us:

The "Vehicle Speed Sensor" is located on the transmission housing. (Driver's side rear) It should have a GR/BLK wire going to it.Turn the ignition on but don't start the truck. Disconnect the plug going to the vss. Use a volt meter to check for voltage between the sensor connector and ground. Approximately 1.5 volts on one of the sensor wires with the key on engine off. Remove the vss from the unit and set the meter on the ac scale on both terminals, and check for voltage pulses as you spin the drive gear. If no pulsing voltage signal is produced, replace the sensor.
Good luck
Peace

Mine was so badly rusted it would disengage somehow and stop working. If you are in gatineau you have major salt rust also? It should be fairly cheap to take to a garage and get it looked at.

ya know from the title I might have made a bad guess. The thread title and what you report inside as the problem are totally different. There is another one about no reverse that has the same problem. Titles SHOULD reflect the real nature of the problem <g>?
