I just bought a 2000 Explorer Sport 2wd today and whenever I brake, I can always feel the ABS being activated, even when I'm not breaking hard. Anything I should look for?

The ABS sensors probably need pulled out of the "hubs" and cleaned off. Either that or the rear sensor is dirty. They are magnets and pick up grime, and rust.

Yeah, I had a simila rproblem with my 97 a year ago, the ABS went on a slow speeds sometimes, somtime sin reverse, all whil eon ry pavement when it should not have to go on. The ABS sensros needed to be replaced, which of course is not cheap. But see if you can check it out yourself and clean them off, check out a repair manual, if not, just get it checke dout at a local shop.

Would it be ok if I just took out the fuse for the ABS, so it didn't work at all? I live in so cal so it hardly ever rains and never gets icy. I could just put the fuse back in if it rains.

Are you sure its the ABS and not your rotors being warped? Because the feeling is similar through the brake pedal.

How would I tell if it was the rotors that are warped?

the pedel would "vibrate" upon braking, when the ABS kicks in the petal vibrates a bit but also "locks" into the position its in, ie. you can't push it down farther. warped rotors give a similar feel but you can push the petal down more. theres also some groaning sounds with the abs kicking.

I think this may be the case on mine 2...but it's a little different when i brake it almost feels like ur driving with a kid who just started it's really faint but it jerks and it's not the way i drive cause i never had that problem in my old car. It feels like it brakes a little stops then brakes and stops but i'm keeping constant pressure on the brake?

Pull ABS fuse and see if the problem goes away.

The problem went away, but my speedometer stopped working. Is that supposed to happen?

their probably on the same fuse, atleast the gauge cluster i'm not sure. sounds like you have some type of abs prob. if it went away when you pulled the fuse. are their any abs lights on? i'd get the brakes checked first before diving in the abs system. make sure all that is up to par.

The abs light isn't on unless the fuse is pulled. I just got the car 3 days ago and it looks like i'll be taking it back to have it looked at. It came with a 3 month warranty.
